Practice Fusion Helps Doctor Get a “New Lease on Life”
Dr. Samuel Berkman planned on retiring when medicine went digitized, until he found Practice Fusion. Not only did he get his $18,000 stimulus check, he also got a “new lease on life.”

I’d love to ask him some questions; 1. how he likes ePrescribe, 2. had he added a PM like Kareo? 3. Does he have it setup to work well for his specialty – and what did it take to do so? 4. Is he sharing data with other practices and hospitals? 5. What hardware did he have to buy? 6. How does he like the lab integration?
I’ve spent some time trying out PF (as an IT guy, not a doctor) and liked what I saw; I thought it would be great for small practices but still have questions.
Hi Troy,
I work at Practice Fusion and helped create this case study with Dr. Berkman. To answer your questions, Dr. Berkman loves our free e-Prescribing module that connects him to over 65,000 pharmacies. Our EMR does integrate with Kareo or you can use your own system with our flexible Superbill feature. Our charting template feature allows doctors of all specialties to use our EMR. Our Chartshare feature allows doctors to send electronic referrals to one another instantly. There is no hardware needed to run Practice Fusion – just an internet browser! And Practice Fusion is connected with over 40 labs, and growing! To learn more about us, visit http://www.practicefusion.com. In addition, if you are interested in becoming a Certified Consultant, you can visit http://www.practicefusion.com/pages/certified_consultants.html.
Thanks for your interest!
Sincerely,
Sarah
Sarah,
Maybe I was being too nosy on a few of my questions for the doctor but;
1. Nice that he likes ePrescribe; I assume he actually uses it. I asked especially after witnessing an incident recently with a very expensive EMR where ePrescribe made no note that the drug prescribed was a very expensive non-formulary; it’s my impression that PF warns if not formulary. Am I right?
2. I know PF runs in a browser; but if you look around most doctor’s offices, their PC’s seem nearly prehistoric. Just wondering what sort of PC, monitor, etc. he uses, and if he has them in multiple exam rooms, front desk, etc. or rolls a laptop around, etc. Did he have to to his Internet service and upgrade it, and rewire his office?
3. Has he found the Chartshare useful for his work? Is he simply referring a patient to another doctor or does he actually pass on important data, test results, etc.?
4. For the labs HE works with, is he getting back digital results that go right into the patient records? I understand PF is up to 50 labs now?
5. And I was wondering if he uses Kareo OR another PM integrated into PF, and how he likes doing that, how well it works for him?
Thanks,
Ron
